REVIEW #1
Ferrari F40 (Matchbox) and Porsche 959 (Matchbox)
Two Incredible Super Cars, from two of the Worlds Best Sports/Racing Car Manufacturers, lined up for a Shoot-out. 1987 the year the Ferrari F40 was Unveiled. Based on the Earlier Ferrari 288 GTO, the F40 was Basically a Stripped Out Racing Car, having the Bare Minimum of equipment to make it Road Legal.
The Porsche 959 was seen the year earlier, too Great Applause from the Motoring Press.
A car with twin Turbo's and Four Wheel drive.! Both Manufacturers were Claiming their cars had 200 mph Capability. (Years Earlier claims from the likes of the Lamborghini Countach and Ferrari Berlinetta Boxer, Usually Fell way short of the Mark.) But this was now the Dawning of the 200 mph Super Cars.

Toy Manufacturers jumped at the chance to make Models of these cars, knowing Full well that Adult Enthusiasts with Interests in the Cars and Children (With playground Talk of " What's the Fastest.?") would Grab at the chance to have Models of these Cars in their Collection (For Most of Us, the Toy Model is the closest we're ever going to get to the 'Real Thing'.)
Matchbox Being amongst the Leaders in Toy Car manufacture, soon had their Models available to All.
Both toys are pretty accurately made, with some nice extra detailing on the 'World Class' series models as issued in later years. Most toy companies soon had their versions of the cars in shops as soon as possible. The Majority of Toy Makers, just stuck to making a basic mould Model (..No opening doors etc..)
Two Companies did go the 'Extra Mile' by giving us an Opening Engine bay on the F40. These Being Hot Wheels and Majorette. Both of these Models will be featured in my follow up Review.

The Stats:
Flat 6 Twin Turbo 2.8 Litre 449ps bhp
0-60mph 3.4s 0-100mph 8.6s ss 1/4 mile 11.8s top Speed 198mph |
V8 Twin Turbo 2.9 Litre 479ps bhp
0-60mph 3.8s 0-100mph 8.1s ss 1/4 mile 11.8s top speed 202mph |
Note: A 959 'Sport' was available in 1987. This was approx. 100kg lighter in weight than the regular 959, which would make it, No doubt reach 200mph.
Ferrari F40 (Hot Wheels) and Ferrari F40 (Majorette)
Continuing today with Majorette's and Hot Wheels' versions of the Ferrari F40. As mentioned above, these two have opening rear engine compartments.
Once again, both cars are well made (as you would expect). The Hot Wheels on a smaller scale to the Majorette.
From the side views, you can clearly see where the rear lifts from the chassis and rear wheels.
Unfortunately, I don't have any Hot Wheels F40's too hand, so I can't show their engine. With Majorette I had taken photo's of different angles in advance, hoping one day to show the detailing.
Note: due to casting changes (maybe because of wear and tear or just to save on costs) the later made Majorette F40 had some differences from the earlier cars. The left and right air intakes on the front of the car had been drilled out and the plastic rear window and lights, had now been removed completely.(No rear window and lights made part of the metal casting.) Changes shown below:-

To finish off my sum up of Ferrari F40 models, below are examples from other toy manufacturers:-
MC toys later to be known as Maisto (examples of both versions here)
Porsche 959 (All other manufacturers)
To conclude this review, here are all the other brands of Porsche 959 I have in my collection:-
