REVIEW #2
Peugeot 604 vs. Renault 30 vs. Volvo 264
A collaboration between these three companies in the early 70's resulted in them building a new engine for their own top of the range, flagship cars.
The engine known as the 'PRV' for obvious reasons (...Peugeot, Renault, Volvo.!) was a V6 2664cc, developing in the region of 140ps bhp (Slightly different versions of tuning between the manufacturers).
Peugeot's car, the 604 was, in my opinion a nice looking traditional 4-door sedan, which any exec at the time could be proud of owning.
Renault went with the latest trend, a hatchback, but on a larger scale than seen before.
The hatchback, still an enormously popular option today on family cars, but not the choice for the luxury crowd. For some reason, Renault chose to call their car the 30. (Being a 2.7 litre car I would have thought 27 more appropriate ...again that's my opinion)
Volvo 264, what can I say ...my least favorite car in this grouping. Basically the regular 244 body with a 164 grill. Okay for basic vip transport I suppose.
I've driven a 244 and it was a non-thrilling experience... (Compared to the car I owned at the time, a 1980 Buick Electra Park Avenue) ..the 244 felt like a toy, with cramped cabin space and small doors and as the expression goes no "Ommphh!".
Obviously the larger engine would have made a bit of difference performance wise, but overall not a car for me.
The Stats:
